Auberge du Lion d'Or

I was unlucky and ended up at the wrong location, since there seem to be two separate hotels. The place I got had a torn seat and old straw furniture with poor paintwork. Then they told me I should have read the listing properly because the nicer hotel is across the street. When you stay in hotels every day, being told you can't read an ad is pretty frustrating. Their hotel is up for sale, and it shows.

The room was nice and the bed comfortable, and we found free parking right beside the hotel. We stayed one night with our two children, and the welcome was very good. The terraced layout gives the place an unusual feel. The air conditioning barely helped, though. We went out for dinner for two hours with it running, but the room was still just as hot when we got back. We finally opened the windows overnight. Such a shame.

The location makes it easy to get everywhere on foot, and parking is free. The breakfast was a little pricey, but there was plenty of it, and they brought it to my room. 👌 The room was basic but did the job. The bed was comfortable, though noisy, and the morning light came through because darker curtains were missing. The shower tap was broken, water drained poorly, and there were leaks.

Booking by phone was straightforward, and parking nearby was easy and free, with shade. The welcome was excellent. Our spacious mezzanine room was lovely, including the bathroom, though the stairs in the annex make it unsuitable for people with reduced mobility. Breakfast needs a complete rethink. They should either charge less or provide a proper buffet and a coffee machine that works.
