B&B HOTEL Marseille La Timone

The reception staff were always smiling and very friendly. Our room was on the fifth floor, facing the entrance, with a lovely view of the palm trees out front. It was spacious, clean, modern, and had AC, though there was no fridge. The bathroom was clean and had plenty of soap and shower gel. There's no shower cabin or curtain, but that was fine for us. Breakfast had good quality food, and the scrambled eggs were very good. We stayed four days and got the same breakfast each morning, so some variety would've been nice. The hotel is also convenient for getting around: Timone metro and bus station is a 5-7 minute walk away, and Lidl and Casino supermarket are nearby. We had a very good experience overall.

The bed was comfortable, and the location was pretty good. For Marseille, where hotels are super expensive, this was great value for money. It had aircon too, which is rare around here. The facilities were good, and one of the women on staff was super friendly and nice. It could've been cleaner. Our room smelled of cigarettes every day, and one towel had a weird smell, but they replaced it and that was fine. We only spotted a Coke bottle under the bed at the end of our stay.

We ended up moving to a cheaper hotel with a better standard, location, and breakfast after two days. The street beside this one was really noisy, and the room smelled bad and wasn't very clean. The restaurant food was all frozen and heated in a microwave. I paid € 12 for salmon that was a ready-made store dish. Even the scrambled eggs at breakfast were powdered and microwaved. Paying by card was also a big problem.

We were so glad we'd booked just one night, because I wouldn't stay here again. Based on the good reviews, I expected better. The room was awful and smelled strongly of Thai curry, so we kept the balcony door open the whole time. There was also a plastic cup full of cigarette butts left out on the balcony. Everything looked filthy, with a stained carpet and a dirty towel hanging in the bathroom, yellow stain right at the front. How could anyone miss that? The shower was one I only wanted to use in flip flops. The soundproofing was good, but it didn't help much when we had to leave the balcony open because of the smell. I expected some sort of standard from a chain hotel. Don't waste your money.
