Hôtel Carré Vieux Port

For a short break, it was ideal, and I’d come back. The hotel was clean, with friendly staff and a fantastic location. The rooms were a little basic and the bathroom very small.

The rooms were small, but very clean, and the beds were really comfortable. A lovely hotel right in the heart of Marseille. We’ll stay here again.

The front desk service was great, and the location is good. The room had some issues, including mosquitoes when we checked in, and there was only one usable plug at the large desk. The bathroom was too small. For the price, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t amazing either.

Breakfast had lots of options, and the woman who handled it was lovely and very friendly. The hotel itself felt more like a hostel to me. It’s clean and well placed near the Vieux Port, with a comfortable, good-sized room, a spacious clean bathroom, and lovely soap. But it’s very expensive for what it is. We got one sachet of Nestcafe coffee, milk, and sugar per person, and any extra meant paying €1.80 for an espresso at the desk. When I asked why, they said it was quite costly. We’d just left a hotel in Nice that had complimentary coffee around the clock from a machine, for a fraction of the price. The coffee cups here were paper, and the bathroom cups were plastic. The stair and corridor lights use motion sensors instead of switches, so sometimes we had to wait for them to come on, and occasionally they went off and on while we were coming down the stairs.
