Ibis Styles Marseille Vieux Port

Breakfast was okay, but I wouldn't recommend this place. The surrounding area felt rather dirty and shady, with rats, homeless people, and junkies nearby. On arrival the lift was broken, so each time I entered or left my room I had to climb all 104 steps of the narrow, winding staircase. The AC in my room was locked or broken, and the heat wave was unbearable. There was no fridge or minibar, and rooms were cleaned only on request. The shower and washroom had no door, and there was no roof access or balcony. Every device was logged out of the Wi-Fi at least once a day. The toilet paper was the thinnest and cheapest I've ever felt.

I had a very enjoyable three-night stay at Ibis Styles Vieux Port in October 2024, and I'd definitely return. It's in an old building a few streets behind the Vieux Port, with a fantastic antique lift serving its several floors. The hotel was what you'd expect from an Ibis: clean and efficient, with a decent breakfast and very helpful staff. My double room was spacious, with lovely high ceilings and curtains that kept the light out well for sleeping. The bathroom was large and even had a bathtub, which I hadn't expected. I would have enjoyed a long bath if I'd stayed longer, but the shower was fine.

The friendly people and easy check-in were a plus, and breakfast was amazingly well done. I'm paying 10 EUR for hotel breakfast in another city now, and it's nothing compared with what this hotel served. The air freshener was a bit overpowering at first, but I got used to it. For the price, it's a good place, with an amazing location close to everything in Vieux Port and Noailles.

We liked the simple but good breakfast, especially the local products and fresh orange juice. The staff were nice, though not all of them spoke English well. The location is convenient for the main attractions and public transport. We were told ahead of time that the elevator wasn't working, and since we were on the second floor, we were lucky. What disappointed us most was that rooms weren't cleaned unless we asked. One spot on the stairs leading to the front desk smelled really bad. There was no hairdryer in the room either, so we had to ask for one.
