Le Grand Canal

The receptionist was friendly and helpful, which is why I settled on three stars, though I struggled to give it that many. We chose the hotel because an airport shuttle was advertised. When I contacted them, I was told it wouldn't be running when we arrived, and they couldn't arrange one for our trip back to the airport the next morning either. A taxi was quoted at €90. Uber was about €35, and the bus was cheaper, around €5 or less, but took an hour. We took the bus, only to discover that detours meant our expected stop wasn't served. The walk to the hotel was about 2 km, which wasn't a major problem, but the hotel should have told us which stop to use. The building itself reminded me of a low-security prison, with concrete walls, other businesses in the main building, and what looked like a long-term renter at the back. Outside, the rooms have metal shutters. There was nobody at the lobby desk when we arrived, but the self-service kiosk handed me a key. The room was small but comfortable, with good linens, though the towels were thin. The shower was large with good water pressure. The AC worked, but its remote badly needed new batteries, and the display was almost impossible to read. The building feels old, and the location is the biggest problem. It's not close to the airport, downtown is a long walk away, and there are no restaurants or pubs nearby. The town is fun, but next time I'd rather book in the town center.
