Hôtel Mercure Maurepas Saint-Quentin

After one night, my back felt like it had been used as a paving stone on the Paris ring road. The mattress might as well have been a concrete slab under a bedsheet. Calling it hard gives stone too much credit. If you want to see how much your skeleton can take, this is the place. Otherwise, bring an air mattress or sleep in your car, which would be more comfortable.

I’ve stayed here four or five times a year for the past five years, and the service and attention have improved. The reception staff are very friendly, and the rooms are clean, quiet, and good. The bar and restaurant waiters are fantastic and professional, and dinner was good as usual with quick service. Congratulations to that team. Breakfast needs more frequent refills, though. On each of three days I waited 15 minutes for scrambled eggs and orange juice, and neither arrived. That wouldn’t happen in a four-star hotel, in my opinion.

The room was a good size for two, and the staff were kind and helpful. We also had a good dinner at the restaurant. We only stayed one night, and it worked perfectly for us.

We got good service at the restaurant. We arrived just before the kitchen closed, but they still made sure we could order dinner. The room was average, and so was the location.
