Villa Genesis

The pool was a lovely break from the crowds along the coast, and the gated parking felt private and secure. We had two great nights. Our upgraded room was on an upper floor, modern, and had a very comfortable bed, good towels, sheets and pillows, plus a great shower and accessories. The AC worked well. Breakfast was plentiful, and the staff were kind and helpful throughout. They greeted us warmly, helped with our luggage, and communication before arrival was easy. A wonderful hotel, highly recommend treating yourself to it.

The rooms were lovely, the beds really comfortable, and the bathroom was bright and practical. There were free drinks in the minibar too. We got a special midweek, out-of-season deal, so we really couldn't complain about the price. Parking cost extra, but it was secure and off the road. Breakfast was €20 per person per night, which felt a bit steep for a buffet that was on the small side compared with ones we've had at other hotels. The staff were what made the place. It was a last-minute stay in a central location, and not quite the kind of standard we usually choose, but the receptionist who welcomed us was lovely, genuine, and easy to chat with. The Estonian receptionist in the morning was a pleasure too, and even offered us coffee and a croissant at no charge. Those little gestures made a real difference, and we appreciated them.

The worst part was having an unknown liquid dumped from the room above onto our balcony. It drenched me and the breakfast I'd just bought, so I had to shower and change when I was ready to start the day. The next day, more water came down onto the balcony. Thankfully, I wasn't sitting out there then. Staff didn't take my concern seriously and acted like I'd made up the incident. We wanted to leave, but because we had booked a non-refundable rate they wouldn't refund us. They gave us one night free, but wouldn't offer any further partial refund if we left early. We told them it was our 10th anniversary, which they did nothing to acknowledge, and that we couldn't relax there anymore. They wouldn't move us to another room and said we could pay the regular price for an upgrade. As a physician, I barely get time off, and this stay wasn't worth my vacation time. I don't recommend it as a “luxury hotel.” They need much better customer service. Villa genesis looked great online, but in person it felt underwhelming and unwelcoming, and it didn't meet luxury hotel standards. The grounds and rooms were much smaller than the photos suggested. We couldn't pull our car through the gate to unload our luggage, and there was no one to help. The AC was also out for the first two days, and they hadn't told us.

The front desk staff were so sweet and gave me great restaurant recommendations. Breakfast was included, with lots of delicious food, and I especially loved having cheese. The location worked well for me: a four- or five-minute walk from the center, close but not right in the middle of things. I like being able to see more of the city and find restaurants that aren't tourist traps. It was quiet without feeling too quiet. I was there for a few nights in mid-February during the lemon festival, traveling alone, and felt completely safe, which matters a lot to me. The building is beautiful and impeccably kept, and definitely seemed recently renovated. I arrived on foot around 9 PM after a long train ride, and all the lights made it look like an oasis. The bed was super comfy, and the blackout curtains meant I slept like a log. I'll stay here again when I return to Menton, and I'd happily recommend it to anyone heading that way.
