La Grange de Léonie

We made ourselves at home in the stable for a week, and the four of us had everything we needed. The building is beautifully designed, the beds are comfortable, and the owners were lovely and welcoming. It’s such a peaceful, idyllic spot that we ended up spending more time there than planned because of the heat. The pool, shade, and air conditioning made that time a pleasure. Our two girls adored the donkeys, along with the cats and dog. Bike hire can be arranged, and the Berry Canal route is easy to ride with kids. This is worth a longer stay, even if some people only stop for one night while travelling north or south. La Grange de Leonie deserves all those five star ratings. Merci Mathilde and Christophe.

The hosts were thoughtful and kind. When we were heading to Chambord castle, one of them first wished us well, then stopped our car before we left the grounds to offer a few more tips for the trip. A small thing, but a lovely gesture. We rented the whole barn for eight nights as a family of four, so we had the place to ourselves, including the private spa. There are three bedrooms, each with a shower and toilet, plus another toilet in a room off the bedrooms. The shared space has a kitchen, dining area, TV corner, and small reception area. You can rent the full barn or just a room. The rooms are all different, but the design ties them together nicely. They’re beautiful, functional, and clearly put together with care. Even the curtains at the terrace doors have Velcro to help block the sunlight. Each room has a TV, and it’s easy to connect a device for Netflix, though you’ll probably want to head to the pool instead. The pool worked well for us, had plenty of space, and had toys to use. The kitchen and dining space worked perfectly, with everything we needed, including a nice coffee machine. There were also shared basics like coffee, tea, sugar, and spices. I know some of that was included in what we paid, but I hadn’t expected it, so it was a nice touch. A couple of small things I’d change: the common room floor is bare concrete or something similar. That’s practical when the space is used as a buffet kitchen for three rented rooms, but I’d prefer another finish. The seating could be more comfortable too. There’s a nice TV, but no large couch or comfy armchairs, just dining chairs. After a 12,000-step day visiting a town and a castle, it would’ve been nice to sit and relax together. You could watch a couple of episodes of The Office, then use the jacuzzi, or watch from a bed instead. The place was clean, the design choices were nice, and the Wi-Fi worked. We even had a swamp beaver come by on its rounds late at night and again early in the morning. A very nice retreat. Just go here, ok?

Breakfast was delicious, with organic local produce and homemade jams, and we slept wonderfully in the middle of nature. The property sits among beautiful old oak trees, and the beds were great. The owners are wonderful and do so much to make a stay memorable. They’ve restored an old barn into a spacious, comfortable bed and breakfast, with the decoration just right. A special stay. I hope to return!
