We stayed here for two nights, before and after a long hike, and both visits went really well. The bar beside the restaurant is a lovely place for a drink and gets quite busy in Modane. I also left something behind by accident, and they kindly mailed it to me once I was back home. I really appreciated their hospitality.

We stayed at Hotel Le Commerce on 26th August and 6th September 2023 during a hiking holiday in the Vanoise Alps. After the first stay, we left bags containing some of our possessions at the hotel to pick up when we came back. On our return, the bags were missing. The hotel told us that an Italian Railway Company had taken them by accident after a rockfall on a railway line near Modane. Nearly three months have now passed, and despite several requests for the hotel to arrange for the Company to post the bags to us, we have had no response to that request. At this point, we no longer believe the bags were taken by accident. We think they must have been stolen from the hotel, and that the management is trying to cover it up. I can’t say why. We warn anyone planning to hike or sky in this area against staying here. We don’t trust the hotel management and consider them disreputable.

A very good little hotel for the money. The rooms aren’t big, but they’re clean, modern, and well equipped. Nothing to complain about.

The restaurant shuts quite early. The people were very friendly and made an effort to communicate, even though they only speak French. It’s a nice little hotel.
