Gite de Bernet

We spent eight days in Rose Cottage at Gites de Bernet, just outside Monein, with my husband and our 18-year-old son. It has a double room and a twin, both large, and the double looks out over the countryside. There’s a big family bathroom upstairs and another toilet downstairs. The open-plan ground floor combines the kitchen and dining area with a comfortable lounge. It really felt like home, with everything we needed to cater for ourselves. We also enjoyed breakfast on the patio in the well-kept garden, where there’s a seating area and an awning for shade. Rebecca and Ben were wonderful from the time we booked. Before we travelled, they sent advice that helped us research and plan things like white water rafting and a meal at a local French restaurant. We’d love to return, and highly recommend the gîte. The Coeur de Béarn area kept us busy all week, with hiking, cycling, swimming in rivers and lakes, and the Pyrenees less than an hour away, along with the coast. There are lots of nearby vineyards, too. Jurancon is great for arranging wine tastings, and the wines are delicious. Thanks to Rebecca and Ben for making us feel so welcome.

We were lucky enough to be there for the Les fete de Monein, with its party atmosphere and fireworks. Our three teenagers had plenty to do to keep active, and Becs and Ben were so welcoming and helpful throughout our fabulous family holiday. We’ll definitely return!

The gîte was comfortable and spacious, with good equipment and a private terrace that caught the sun. We enjoyed relaxing there and eating outside. Rebecca and Ben were incredibly helpful and welcoming, and we’ll definitely come back. There’s plenty to explore nearby, from the Pyrenees and Pau to the local town of Monein, with its market, award-winning boulangerie, and excellent restaurants. The surrounding area is great for cycling and walking, and you’re in Jurançon wine country, so trying the local wine is a must.

We spent four nights here in April while looking for a house in the area, and loved our stay. Booking through the website was easy, and the owners gave us a warm welcome. The gite was clean and modern, with everything we needed: a dishwasher, a strong shower with massage jets, and very comfortable beds with crisp cotton sheets. From the pretty balcony, we could see over the rolling Bearn countryside and even make out the snowcapped Pyrenees. It’s also well placed for exploring. Pau is a half-hour drive away, the beach is an hour away, and skiing takes just over an hour. We hope to buy a property in this beautiful part of SW France. Thank you!
