Hotel Campanile Auxerre - Monéteau

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and breakfast was good since there was no cooking involved. Dinner was awful: the "Torte au poulet" starter looked like dried-out chicken from the day before in a pie, and the main course chicken was poor quality and overcooked. The building could use a facelift, and the bathroom drains stink.

A handy place for an overnight stop, with a decent room for the price. We stayed half board and liked the food, and extra drinks were reasonably priced. The staff were helpful, though service in the restaurant dragged a little because they were so busy. Good value overall.

Our room was clean, modern, and simple, with free parking right outside, as you'd expect from a motel-style place. The staff were friendly. We didn't eat at the restaurant next door, but it looked nice. It's close to the motorway and only a short drive from Chablis, which is always a plus. There are supermarkets nearby too, handy if you need supplies for the rest of your journey.

The rooms are dated and cost too much for what you get. Ours had a connecting door to someone else's room. The kids opened it and found a man sleeping naked. In the replacement room, the chair was broken and the child's bed was missing. We were too exhausted to go back to reception, so we pushed the single beds together and all three of us slept on them. Appalling.
