Hôtel le Castelet

The location in the middle of the village and the good-sized, nicely styled rooms make this a good-value place I’d stay at again. I’d call it 3.5 out of 5, if half marks were allowed. A few things could be better, though none would put me off returning. The orange walls on the room floors are ghastly and give the place an EasyHotel feel. In the shower, you can’t adjust the handheld shower height, and there’s nowhere to put toiletries except the floor. The rooms were generally clean, but some products left on top of the shower by a previous guest were missed, perhaps because there’s no shelf. Breakfast had a good selection. A kettle would help, since the coffee machine water isn’t hot enough to brew tea properly. The scrambled eggs and sausage were cold.

The people working here were very friendly, and breakfast was excellent. It’s well placed in town and has parking. We did hear much more traffic than expected from the little street outside our window during the morning and day, based on what we’d anticipated from Google Maps, but it was very quiet at night.

We enjoyed having a garden to sit in with a well-earned beer after the day. The staff were super friendly and always around or not far away. The hotel is only 100m from the town centre, so there’s no need to drive. I’d highly recommend it.

The bed was fantastic, and our room felt modern and well equipped. We loved staying at hotel Le Castelet, especially with such friendly and helpful staff. We’ll stay here again when we return to Mont-dore.
