Relais Saint Michel

The views were phenomenal, and the staff treated us with real kindness and respect. There’s a bus stop just outside the hotel, and parking is marked on the road before it. We had breakfast delivered to our room at 7:30 a.m. on the days we visited, and it was very tasty. The hotel restaurant was excellent too. The Maitre d' and her staff were wonderful, the food was very good, and I strongly recommend the three-course combination plates. They send the entry code a few days ahead. The entrance is on the westernmost road. Keep the one-time ticket you get at the gate and pay for parking when you leave. If you need to leave the location and return, tell the staff so they can give you a new ticket number. Off-season parking was 6€. In the off-season, the tide never gets high enough to block entry, and the buses run rain or shine. Thanks for the hospitality, it made our visit memorable!

The Relais had the cozy bed, friendly people, good food, and unbeatable views we wanted. It felt comfortable, charming, and authentic for this setting, with parking too. Don’t expect a five-star Adolphus or Ritz-Carlton experience. Those hotels are wonderful, but don’t fit a place like this. If you stay here instead of on the Abbey, the suites are spacious. Mine had two stories and a beautiful view. Try to avoid Room 211 if you can, since a few trees partly block the nighttime view of the Abbey, which is magical to fall asleep to. Staying at the Abbey itself looked lovely and probably unforgettable if you’re ready for the trek, or time your arrival with the tram. It can be crowded, and there’s still a steep cobblestone climb after the drop-off.

The building is dated, but it was clean and comfortable. Breakfast came with our package and was simple but good, basically a standard European buffet. From the room and balcony we had a magnificent, picture-perfect view of Mont Saint Michell.

The bus to the island stops right outside, and you can also see Mont Saint Michel from the restaurant. The hotel’s interior and furniture are a bit outdated, but the view makes up for it. The staff weren’t overly friendly, though friendly enough. If the view is what you’re after, this is the place.
