Ton and Joke make you feel welcome and are happy to help. Breakfast is superb, and you can also have dinner if you like, at very reasonable prices. It’s a charming B&B for anyone after peace and quiet, rather than a posh five-star hotel.

I haven’t stayed overnight, but I did order and collect their famous New Year’s Eve oliebollen. The place is beautiful even in the middle of winter.

Outside, the quiet and darkness make for a particularly good night’s sleep. The rooms are lovely, and the surrounding countryside is beautiful, with its rolling landscape and typical French villages. At Entrepôt de la gare, the magnificent property has been renovated in style into a welcoming home for a stay in Burgundy. It isn’t overly luxurious, but it has all the conveniences you need, and (almost) anything is possible.

The owners, Ton and Joke, are super friendly, and the peaceful setting comes with a beautiful view. I slept wonderfully in a very comfortable room, and the shower was great too. The food and drinks are good quality, with especially good options for vegetarians. I even wrote a poem about it.

The rooms are simple and the beds are comfortable. The bathrooms work, though they still feel a bit unfinished. Anyone who can live with the improvisations, or overlook them, will enjoy the house’s charm, the overgrown garden, the surroundings, and the host’s realized dream. You might be happy to stay a few days longer. Rob van Setten greets guests like old friends. On Fridays and weekends he offers a set table d’hôtes menu, also open to non-residents if they book ahead. There’s a music café once a month. Breakfast is thoughtfully prepared and, weather permitting, served outside. We were lucky enough to have it that way. The house is an old warehouse at the tiny local train station, where trains pass very, very rarely, which wasn’t a problem at all. It sits on a huge plot with a tennis court. The owners did a lot of the work themselves, with plenty of improvising along the way. The open-plan kitchen really stands out, as does the cast-iron spiral staircase, though it’s not for the faint of heart. The covered loading ramps have become terraces where you can relax all day, even when it rains a little, and look out at the storks or cows in the neighboring meadow. Pergolas shelter one side of the terrace, with room for breakfast and dinner. There’s space for plenty of guests both inside and out. This place doesn’t fit the usual review criteria. Turning down the bumpy driveway feels like entering another world, with a different kind of tranquility, not just because of the uneven road. It’s a hippie dream, best experienced for yourself.
