The worst part was being left outside for 40 minutes in the cold. I had the address and entry instructions, but no access code, and repeated calls and messages by phone, WhatsApp, and email went unanswered. The host had only contacted me around noon, after I reached out first, with an email and video entirely in French saying the personal code would arrive separately. It never did. In frustration, I tried the example code in the video, despite the host saying each guest had a different one, and it let me in. After that, there was no welcome or check-in message at all. That evening my manager, who speaks French, contacted the host and got an immediate reply insisting the code had been in the separate email. It hadn't arrived for me. It felt like I was ignored for speaking English while French got a response, which is discrimination, plain and simple. The host was arrogant about it too. The apartment itself was cold, around 19°C, with a locked thermostat. It smelled moldy and was visibly dirty, especially in the corners and around the bathroom. For the price, cleanliness and upkeep were far below what I expected. The elevator made loud, alarming noises, and I felt unsafe every time I used it. There was a dead rat by the entrance when I arrived, gone the next morning and replaced by a smaller mouse. That says a lot about the state of the building. I've traveled internationally for work since 2011, with well over a hundred business trips, and have stayed in hotels, apartments, hostels, and even industrial camps. I've never encountered guests being treated with such carelessness and disrespect. The whole experience felt cold and silent, like the apartment. With premium prices, the least the host could do is act as if he wants guests, not just their money. I had booked eight nights but left after one and booked another hotel. Because of the non-refundable policy, despite the host not meeting his obligations, I still have an open case with the authorities. Of course, he never messaged back. 😊
