Villa La Roseraie

The location made it easy to explore Montignac on foot, and there was plenty of parking around the hotel. We spent a week here and enjoyed every minute. The building is full of charm and character, and the gardens feel like a secret paradise. It’s a very relaxing place, and everyone looked after us so well with warm, friendly, professional service. Our room was spacious, spotless, and comfortable. The air conditioning worked perfectly through the 40 degree heat. Breakfast had a really good variety of treats, especially the little walnut cakes. We also ate dinner in the restaurant twice and loved the delicious, fresh, tasty food. It’s amazingly good value. And they make a cracking G&T.

The shared spaces beside the rooms were a real highlight, with lovely furnishings and shelves full of books in French, German, and English, including books for children. It was a nice place to unwind after visiting the Lascaux caves or spend a quiet afternoon indoors. The hotel sits right by the Vézère River, close enough to walk to the town’s main sights, while still feeling peaceful and private. Its architecture, decor, garden, and terrace all have a strong sense of history and charm.

The owners were friendly and very helpful, and staying in the villa also meant we could use the hotel pool and restaurant, which was excellent. The restored timber-framed place was comfortable and well equipped, with the first and second floors above a stone ground floor. There are lots of stairs, though. If you’re forgetful like me, you’ll get plenty of exercise going back up for your car keys and other things.

We came for two nights for the sportive and ate at the hotel. The hosts made us feel very welcome, and the staff were attentive. The grounds are well kept, and the pool area is a relaxing spot. It’s also handy for getting to everything the town has to offer. We enjoyed lunch out in the village and would try its restaurants next time. We’d definitely stay here again.
