Hotel Richer de Belleval

We felt very at home here. The staff were caring and polite, and the hotel was comfortable, clean and beautiful. It’s on a calm street right in the old town, with restaurants, coffee and tea shops, lovely little boutiques and artisan stores nearby. I hope I can come back soon.

What made this stay stand out most was how much the team cared after we’d checked out. I accidentally left a pair of pants and a shirt in the closet. Three weeks later, they called to say they’d shipped them to Spain for me. The package came back to them, but they called again and have followed up three separate times to make sure I get my things. That kind of care says a lot about how they treat their guests. We stayed at Hôtel Richer de Belleval for just one night about three weeks ago, with my wife and parents. They welcomed us warmly, gave us a beautiful room and made sure we had everything we needed. The hotel is a historic gem in a great location, and the Michelin-star restaurant was unforgettable, from the phenomenal food to the breathtaking setting. I’ll absolutely be back. Bravo to the whole team.

We dropped in on spec to see the bar on the first floor and have a cocktail before dinner. Reception welcomed us and showed us upstairs. The bar was lovely and very quiet on a Sunday evening at the end of August. The cocktails were expertly made and, considering the surroundings, not too expensive.

The beds, duvets and pillows were some of the most comfortable we’ve ever had. Our spacious room was well designed, and the historic building, quiet courtyard and stylish bar all added to the charm. It’s in a lovely square in Montpellier, in a peaceful but central location. We found a few housekeeping issues, including several hairs in the bathroom and a couple of other missed spots. The public areas were spotless and the hotel was generally clean. When we mentioned the room, the staff responded well, became much friendlier and offered us two glasses of champagne as an apology. They also quickly fixed our WiFi issue by giving us a working password. Breakfast had a decent selection. The welcome drink was a sweet gesture, though I’d have preferred something less sugary. We really enjoyed our visit, and the character, location and superb beds made it special. Better attention to cleaning details and continued improvement in service would make the hotel even better. Highly recommended for a memorable stay in Montpellier.
