Château de Montreuil

The wine list had a good selection, though it was expensive and there was no house wine. Dinner itself was a letdown: the service and food were only okay, and the main course badly needed seasoning. We had to ask for salt and pepper, as did the French couple at the next table. There were lots of visible bones in the fish, and dessert came in a ramekin without a plate. Linen napkins, but no tablecloths. It wasn't what we expected.

We had a drink on the terrace by the garden room and a really good meal in the restaurant. Our room was lovely, with a big, comfortable bed, and the whole hotel was very clean. The staff were friendly, kind, and helpful throughout. It's been a while since we stayed somewhere this lovely. Everything felt first class ❤️

The garden made a lovely setting, and everything was very good value. We had a wonderful dinner and buffet breakfast, with great food and attentive staff.

We came back after 30 years and were given the same room we stayed in before. It was delightfully unchanged, though the huge bathroom had been upgraded. The hotel is in a great spot near the ramparts and town center, and it felt cosy and welcoming on a cold November night. The staff were attentive and welcoming, and the restaurant, with its open fire, was a delight. All the food was delicious. My whole pigeon was tender throughout and outstanding, and my wife's scallops prepared three ways were just as good. The desserts were excellent too. For the quality, the meal and wine were very reasonably priced. We'd definitely return.
