Hotel de la Poste

We were cycle touring, and the woman at reception was so helpful, even putting up with my rusty French. Everyone was charming and friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and there was a great terrace bar with decent bottles of wine. Best hotel of our trip!

Mortain has lovely walks around it, and Les Cascades was a good dinner option since the hotel restaurant was closed that evening. We arrived before the official 1800 entry time and, with some cyclists, managed to get in a little early. The hotel feels traditionally French, with nice but small rooms. The toilet light switch was oddly placed on the far side of the room, beside the bed. There’s no parking except for two wheels, but a free public lot is right outside, along with street parking. The lot closes on Saturday mornings for the market.

After a day of cycling we felt very welcome, and our bikes were stored safely. We spent a lovely evening on the terrace, then finished our stay with an early swim. The hotel has beautiful views, and nothing seemed too much trouble for this family-run place. I’d strongly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Thanks for looking after us.

We could walk to shops and restaurants, and Mortain itself felt quaint and special. Our tour group stayed for three nights. The hotel was charming and very clean, and the staff were friendly and accommodating to all of us. We had dinner there one night and breakfast each morning. The food was good and plentiful, and the restaurant opens onto a lovely outdoor patio.
