Château de la Croix Bizet

The owner was friendly and quick to respond, and we didn’t mind staying for one night on our way back toward Calais. We’d stay again if we needed to, though I’d only recommend it as an overnight stop on the way. Three stars, meaning “it’s ok,” seems fair. Our room was spacious, with a high ceiling, internet, and TV, and the place was fairly quiet. It’s the cheapest option around for an overnight stay, and there’s a shared kitchen with a stove, fridge, dishes, and cutlery you can use for free. There isn’t much within walking distance, though, so you really need a vehicle. The room had fresh bedding and had been cleaned, but it needed a proper deep clean, including the ceiling and other areas. The building is dated and needs renovation, even if some people might find its vintage look charming. The shared kitchen is in poor shape, usable for cooking but not much else. The windows are huge, so with kids you need to keep them closed because of the safety risk. Getting in was confusing. The front door was shut and there were no instructions, so we had to go around the back and knock at the owner’s ground-floor apartment.

A lovely little find, just the off-the-beaten-track Chateau we were after. The village below by the Seine was perfect, and made a great starting point for a bike ride.

The beds were clean, but the rest of the studio wasn’t. There was a dirty glass in the bathroom cabinet and spiderwebs everywhere. The place didn’t feel welcoming, and it really needs refurbishment.

The rooms were small and awful, with dirt, dust, bugs, spiders, and webs. The Wi-Fi was terrible too. The owner wasn’t welcoming. I wouldn’t consider staying here even for one night.
