Gîte de Vénascle

Dinner was a highlight for me. For a great price you get a great meal, and it's even better if you get to know the other people at the table. I'd choose dinner over breakfast. The staff's kindness and smiles won me over right away, too. The dormitory feels dated, and the facilities aren't especially impressive. I was nervous about sharing a dorm with strangers since I'd never done it before, but it turned into one of the best parts of my trip. When I'm back in Verdon, I want to stay again, more than 100% ;) P.S. You're unlikely to get mobile signal, whatever phone you have. There's WiFi in the dorms, but it's never great, so you'll be disconnected from civilization for a while.

The setting gives you lovely views, nearby activities and that tucked-away nature getaway feeling. It's a cozy place, and the staff are friendly and down to earth. I'd definitely come back.

The food was really delicious, but dinner had us squeezed around a wooden table with 12 other travelers. During covid, that felt risky. A little more space and more mask wearing would've made us feel much more comfortable. Sharing a meal to meet other travelers is a lovely idea, but the way it was handled felt a bit irresponsible at the time. Our room was very rustic and got little natural light.

We only stayed two nights and wished we'd booked longer. It was a comfortable spot to unplug and recharge, with simple, cozy, well-kept amenities that suited us perfectly. The location is sublime. The staff were very helpful and gave us a great tour of the area, which is ideal for hiking. We're planning to come back next spring and use it as a base for remote work.
