La Bastide de Moustiers

The cheese course was a real highlight of an amazing Michelin star meal. The food quality made it good value, and the service was welcoming and attentive. Highly recommend.

Moustiers Sainte Marie has loads of great shops and restaurants, and Lac Sainte Croix makes a gorgeous day trip through the mountains. We spent a few nights here, and it was worth every penny. The villas are charming and full of character, rustic but beautifully decorated and furnished, and the food is incredible. The best part is the staff. Everyone is genuinely friendly and kind, always working hard and taking pride in the little details. It was a five star experience in every way. Just do it!!!

The staff were warm and attentive throughout our two nights in September, and we enjoyed eating at the hotel restaurant both evenings. The menu was fixed, though on the second night they kindly offered alternatives. My husband chose the roasted duckling, which unfortunately wasn't quite up to par, but we appreciated being able to give the manager our feedback. Our room in the main building looked out over the garden and surrounding mountains, a beautiful scene. The only small hassle was having too few power outlets to run the coffee machine and kettle while charging our phones. The place lived up to the reviews and what we'd hoped for. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would gladly return to both the hotel and restaurant.

The room attendants were wonderful, coming by twice a day. We got night shirts, and fresh fruit and biscuits daily. There's a lot to explore on the property, including the garden, pool, restaurant, and two very cool donkeys. I'm a vintage lover, so the hotel was right up my alley. Moustiers Saint Marie was my favorite of all the popular towns we visited: quiet, colorful, and packed with great food and shops. It's a gorgeous place, and I'd happily return again and again. A couple of things didn't work for us. We'd read about crepes at breakfast and were looking forward to them, but the staff seemed surprised when we asked. Our room was in the main building, where the restaurant is, and dinner noise went on pretty late. The Michelin star dinner was my least favorite meal of the trip. A lot of people rave about it, and maybe you'd enjoy it if you have a broad palette. I don't, so the lemon risotto was the only option that sounded good. Mint was mentioned, but I thought it would be a garnish or minor ingredient. Three of the four of us ordered it, and when the plates arrived the mint smell was overwhelming. The first bite caught us completely off guard. It tasted like brushing our teeth. The little tasting courses beforehand didn't excite us much either, and I'll leave it there. Probably the worst risotto I've had. You might have a totally different experience, though. The hotel is stunning, but I'd skip the restaurant unless the menu changed.
