Hotel Bristol

For an overnight stop, this was a convenient and pleasant hotel. We could easily take a short walk into the city, and the room was fantastic. We stayed one night at Contact Hôtel Bristol in Mulhouse, France, on our way from the Netherlands to Italy. The room for one adult and two children was much more spacious and comfortable than we'd expected, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was disappointing for the price. We expected more variety and fresher food. We appreciated the small gluten-free section for my daughter, but it was minimal and didn't seem fresh, as if it had been sitting there unused for a while.

The room smelled like sewage, and for three days we couldn't use the bathroom or shower. There was a blockage, and whenever we flushed, water came up into the bath and sink. We even walked into a room with the bath full of dirty water. We asked to move, but they didn't give us another room or fix the blockage the whole three days. The food was bad too. Worst hotel ever. Avoid it.

We stopped over here and had a great stay. The location is good, the staff are nice, and there's secure parking. Breakfast was great, and the rooms were super clean.

The underground parking is protected, but getting into the garage was difficult. It's a very tight squeeze through traffic, and hotel staff offered little or no help. The location is within walking distance of things, though the area looked sketchy. The hotel does have air conditioning, but management decides when it runs. They made it sound as if our unit wasn't working and said someone would come, but nobody ever did. We ended up trying to sleep in the heat in May. The showers were just handheld nozzles in tubs, and an older woman at the front desk was rude and no help at all. I don't plan to return to Mulhouse, and I definitely wouldn't book this hotel again or recommend it to anyone expecting good service and a comfortable stay.
