Arena Hotel La Defense

The room was bright, spacious, and laid out well, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It’s convenient for public transport, with the RER A getting you to central Paris in three stops. But there isn’t much to do in the town itself. Getting into the hotel meant climbing four flights of stairs, which caught me off guard with heavy luggage. There was a lot of dust, and a stale, moldy smell in my room. I ended up with a sore throat and was ill throughout my stay.

The location worked well for La Defense Arena and RER connections. During our visit in early December 2024, the hotel was being refurbished, and we hadn’t been told in advance. There was no bar or dining service, and the WiFi was down for hours. Reception is several flights up, with no lift, so it’s a poor fit for older guests or anyone carrying heavy luggage.

Although the hotel is small, it has a dining room where you can enjoy a tasty breakfast. It’s on a quiet street, only four stops from the center of Paris. My room was very comfortable and clean, which matters most to me, and the people working there treated me with respect. Best hotel I’ve seen so far!

February 01-04, 2025 The ground floor still has no elevator, and the place is still a work in progress. But while you’re there, enjoy the brand new view... It’s easy to rate a Ritz Carlton or Hilton. A first visit in an emergency, on a budget that won’t even cover a small Paris room, is another matter. That’s what many tourists are looking for: somewhere to sleep, wake up, and be surprised. At Arena Hotel La Défense, expect the minimum for your money, and then you may be surprised.
