ibis Styles Nantes Centre Gare

The room was spacious and clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It's a convenient base close to Nantes train station and a tram stop, with tourist sights and great restaurants within walking distance.

The breakfast was great, and the hotel felt clean and good value. Staff were friendly, and the tram and city centre restaurants were easy to reach. My daughter especially enjoyed the foosball table in the lobby.

We really enjoyed our six nights here. Our room had a little balcony, and the blackout blinds and curtains kept it properly dark. Breakfast had loads to choose from, including meat, cheese, yogurt, fruit, juice, cereal, fresh bread and pastries. They bake the bread right in the breakfast area and source items locally when they can. There are eco-friendly touches too, like a water bottle refill station. The hotel was great value, and it’s a short walk to shops, restaurants and a lovely park, with the station and public transport nearby.

The reception team at the hotel I accidentally checked into were kind, very helpful and apologetic. They gave me breakfast for free, and it was excellent, with scrambled eggs and plenty more. That was a bright spot in a pretty miserable arrival. Accor has two Ibis hotels by Nantes train station with almost identical names. I’d enjoyed the Styles hotel the previous month and meant to return, but booked the other Ibis Centre Gare by mistake. The hotels wouldn’t move my booking, even though I arrived there alone by taxi around 23:00, with two suitcases, after travelling from London through Amsterdam since the morning. I had to pay another 16 euros for a taxi to the other hotel, Ibis Centre Gare (Sud). That hotel was poor quality. After a hot day, the air conditioning barely worked in the replacement room they gave me. There was no fridge, unlike at the Styles, so I worried my food for the next day’s train journey would spoil. The bathroom smelled of urine. The receptionist said guests confuse the hotels every day. I felt a bit tricked, and this wasn’t a nice visit to Nantes. I might avoid Ibis in future. The receptionist said management would hear about the confusing names and my suggestion to make clear there are two Ibis hotels on opposite sides of Nantes train station.
