The location made it easy to explore Nantes on foot. Mercure Nantes Centre Passage Pommeraye is almost across from Passage Pommeraye, and the neighborhood felt safe and quiet. The hotel has a lovely boutique feel, combining the old building with modern details, and we’d gladly stay again. Our superior room was spotless and looked out onto the street, with a small juliette balcony. It came with a safe, fridge, hairdryer, white towelling robes, slippers, kettle and coffee machine, plus complimentary drinks and a bottle of water in the fridge. Hanging space was limited but fine for a short visit. The air con was set to 19, which suited us perfectly. The bathroom was clean and had plenty of hooks and shelf space. I enjoyed the NUXE toiletries, and the heated towel rail let us reuse our towels. The shower, though, was in a high bathtub that I found a little awkward to climb in and out of, and there was no anti-slip mat. The toilet sits very close to the wall, so a larger person might have to sit sideways. I’m not sure why they didn’t install a walk-in shower, which could have left more room around the toilet. Breakfast is served in the reception area, with a great selection of fresh food. I especially liked the crepes, cheeses and loose-leaf tea. I liked that tea so much I bought some from the nearby Palais de The to take home. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and we couldn’t have asked for more from them.

The room was large, but still quite cold, and breakfast was basic. I left the room-cleaning sign out, but housekeeping didn’t come, and our bins were overflowing when we checked out. In your reply, you said the sign says “Do not disturb” on both sides. That isn’t right. One side says the guest is inside, “dreaming”; the other says they’ve gone out “exploring.” I used the exploring side the first time and the room was cleaned. The second time I used that same side, nothing happened.

The location was excellent, but after eight nights, from May 31-June 7, we were disappointed with quite a few things in our room. There was hardly enough space for our luggage, the walls were all black and very dark, and room # 109 had such a bad window view that we kept the curtains closed. The shower was over a bathtub, so getting in meant lifting my legs quite high. There was no rubber mat, and I nearly slipped three times on the conditioner. Reception didn’t have a mat to give me, so I ended up buying one myself. Breakfast got repetitive during our stay, with the same limited choices every day. There wasn’t even toast bread, at least for non-French people. If you arrived around 9am, things like cheese, bacon or fruit salad were often gone. The scrambled eggs were awful, the worst I’ve had. They looked like powdered egg, and I honestly wondered if they were real eggs. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, especially to non-French guests.

I was here for work, and the strong WiFi was important. The service was great, too. Thanks to Nathan, Eloane, and the rest of the team for being so welcoming and friendly. My room, bathroom included, was spacious and quiet, and I really enjoyed my stay at this charming hotel in a central spot. I look forward to coming back.

There’s no lobby, lounge or bar, and the place feels more like an apartment building. Still, it’s a decent choice for a night or two. Breakfast was okay but not worth the price, so I’d book without it and go up one room category instead. The beds in the lowest category are too small for two people. There are cafes nearby where you could have breakfast.
