Camping Beau Rivage

We’ve been coming here for five years and now prefer to settle in one spot rather than tour around. The owners are a lovely French couple who speak English and are especially helpful if something goes wrong. Stephane puts our van out for us on the day we’re due to arrive, and there’s covered storage for the caravan if needed. We book a serviced pitch with its own water tap and drain. The site is peaceful, with the river flowing behind it, well below the grounds so there’s no flooding risk. There are trees and shrubs between pitches, and the surroundings are beautiful. Friends who stayed in one of the chalets loved it too. They said it was very clean and had all the modern conveniences, including air conditioning. One of the best campsites in France, in our view.

We only stayed one night in our CampingCar, but the spacious, neat pitches and clean, well-kept facilities made a good impression. The staff were warm and welcoming. We’d come back for longer to enjoy the pool, bar and restaurant. I gave the rooms full marks because this campsite deserves a good review.

We chose a grass pitch because the hard-standing ones felt too close together. The toilets and showers were consistently clean, and the swimming pool on site was lovely. There’s also a newer, larger town pool just over the hedge. The peaceful setting is beside a historic town and lovely countryside, with easy access to the Sonport tunnel into Spain. We enjoyed meeting some of the British campers who stay for longer stretches. Even though the bar was closed in late May, the evenings still had a nice atmosphere. Just be warned, they enjoy a drink!

2025 update: the new owners have kept the standards high, and it’s still a lovely place to stay. The site used to be run by Wendy and Richard, who were wonderfully helpful, but they retired and sold it in October 2019. We were sad to see them go, though we’re glad the campsite has continued to be so well kept.
