Amboise Troglodyte

The little cave itself kept me looking around for 20 minutes. Each detail felt like a small gift, from the pretty teaspoons to the clever use of space. It really was like living inside a sculpture. At night I wrote in bed with the lamps throwing a glow across the walls, and lighting candles made the place feel quietly warm in a way the photos can't show. The simple, nostalgic feel brought my Nana to mind, especially during the week, with the castles and Lotte & Alex's life reminding me of her too. I booked through AirBnB curious about the place, but Alex leading me through the little gate into that cozy cave was when I started to understand it. The whole stay had a sensory quality that got under my skin. I was traveling alone, and after finding it hard to connect with anyone since arriving in France, I nearly cried when Lotte greeted me so warmly. Alex and Lotte welcomed me with such kindness that thinking back on the week still warms me. I found dear friends in them and will always treasure my time in their home. Lotte seemed to learn my preferences a little more with each breakfast. There were sweet edible flowers, and once she realized I liked pineapple, she made sure there was plenty. Beyond the home's artistry, what I remember most is the generosity and heart of the people who made it. A magical place with precious people.

The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and breakfast was delicious. One of the most beautiful places I've stayed in Amboise, with an amazing room and the best views.

We wished we could have stayed longer, and hope we get to return. The hillside setting was quiet, away from the village bustle but still easy to reach, and parking was easy to find. There's plenty to see nearby. We spent two nights in the La Royal room. The cave feels mysterious and magical, and the rough walls look beautiful alongside the natural materials. It stays cool, which made sleeping well possible even in hot weather. The bathtub was lovely, and flowers, candles, scented bath products, robes and slippers gave it a spa-like feel. Breakfast was fresh, generous and beautifully served. Our host was courteous and pleasant, and we felt truly welcome. It was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of stay. Wholeheartedly recommended, and thank you!

A place worth making the destination by itself. The cave room was incredible, and the hospitality felt beyond five stars. Breakfast each morning was fabulous. It's minutes from Amboise and half an hour from Tour. Take the country roads if you'd like some firsthand wine tasting. This experience deserves 10 stars!
