Near the village of Nérac, the Chrysalide sits among trees overlooking green fields, making it a lovely place to spend the night. It’s a large, air-filled bubble with clear walls and two rooms, plus a toilet. Inside, the simple modern decor is nicely done. There’s a hot tub and deckchairs beside it, and a telescope for looking at the stars. Supper and breakfast are provided.

The bed was comfortable, and we really enjoyed the fantastic jacuzzi. The welcome was very good too. The setting is peaceful and unusual, with the bubbles far enough apart for privacy, but we were still really disappointed. We’ve stayed in a bubble before and had a much better experience. At €275 a night, the value is already questionable. Then €22 for rose petals arranged in a tiny heart on the bed felt excessive, and €79 for a meal of vegetable flan and cold salmon with mayonnaise was outrageous. The foie gras was very good, but it didn’t make up for the cost. We’d expected a hot meal. €376 all in just wasn’t worth it. The furniture felt really dated: a torn deckchair, stained carpet, and a lamp missing its shade. A small bed skirt would help, and the top of the bubble was so dark we could hardly see anything. At night, at least, the dirt wasn’t visible. It’s a shame, because this could be so much better. There were a few too many products in the jacuzzi, so watch your jewelry. Wishing you continued success, but some things need work.

We enjoyed the friendly welcome, good breakfast, and refreshing natural setting, but the high price was hard to justify. The place needs a general clean and refurbishment. The equipment looked tired throughout, from the railings and bedroom floor to the lamps, tables, sofa, bed, and bubbles. There were five dead bedbugs in the room when we arrived, and basic items were missing, including soap, outdoor lights, and cushions for the loungers. The outdoor shower only had hot water for 30 seconds. On very hot days there was no way to stay in the bubbles, and the dry toilet faced the head of the bed. So it was a pleasant stay in some ways, but not worth the exorbitant cost. The staff and welcome were good, no complaints there.

The location is beautiful and quiet, and the jacuzzi worked really well, but the service didn’t meet expectations. We arrived to find the bubble damaged, with a broken zipper and a patch. The blower had to run hard to keep it from collapsing, and it was extremely noisy through the night. We also only found out on arrival that the shower was outside, and they had run out of soap. A heads-up would have helped. Breakfast quality was disappointing too. I’ve tried several similar places, and this one fell short. It has a lot of potential, but needs more upkeep and better communication with guests.

Breakfast was excellent, and the bubble itself was clean and well equipped, but €280 for one night for two, with breakfast and no extras, is far too much for this experience. The setting and jacuzzi were nice, though we were disappointed by the site's condition. The photos no longer match what’s there. The neglected wooden deck and furniture need repainting, while the lounger covers are stained and worn. Moss is everywhere, and the area around the deck needs pruning, including higher up so you can see the sky properly. Inside, the round bed was in poor shape, with makeshift legs that left it tilting to both sides. The brochure mentioned a telescope, but there wasn’t one.
