Guesthouse Le Vauban

I really enjoyed staying at Guesthouse Le Vauban. The “Blaye” room was roomy, cozy, and comfortable, with a quality kitchen, and I felt at home there. The whole house was spotless and comfortable, with a calm, elegant feel. Marie provided excellent service, and the housekeeper was discreet, efficient, and always cheerful. I’d gladly recommend this place in Neuf-Brisach.

We spent the weekend in the Mont Louis studio. It was clean and had everything we needed, and we found free parking nearby. The first night went well, but the next one was a disaster and we barely rested. The studio is connected to the bar next door, and that evening there was a rock music event. The sound came through far too loudly, so we couldn’t sleep until it finished around 1:00 AM. Keep that in mind when booking.

We were very uncomfortable and ended up leaving without staying. When we arrived in the evening, a disheveled stranger was lying on the decorative bench just outside our room in the hallway. He was still there when we left later. Inside, there was a strong smoke smell, apparently covered with vanilla air freshener. The air felt bad, and the furniture seemed old and worn. We asked to cancel for free, but got a blunt refusal with no understanding or attempt to compromise. A very disappointing experience, and I can’t recommend it. There’s lots of free parking at the central square, less than a two-minute walk away. The rooms are furnished very nicely. The Wi-Fi, though, isn’t fast enough for Netflix in the evening. The speed is pretty poor, but you’re on vacation!
