Perchène comes from Préchêne, an old name for this area meaning “Meadow of the Oak.” The mill stands beside the Brenne River and was already known in 1030 as Molendinus de Prato ad Quercum. It began as a flour mill in the 11th century, then in the 19th century it ground oak bark for tanneries.
