ibis Nevers

The building looks attractive, and the setting by the river at the end of a bridge is scenic. You can walk across the bridge into the small city. The hotel itself isn’t clearly signed, and its parking is tucked away from the road, though there are plenty of spaces. We arrived just before 11pm and were offered snacks, but nobody made it clear where we could get a meal, so we had to skip dinner. Not a great start. Our room was small and rather dark because of its tiny window. The place felt tired and could use new carpet, but it was clean. Breakfast was good, with plenty of good-quality choices, including scrambled eggs and bacon as well as the usual cold food.

Breakfast was great, with a lovely emphasis on local produce. The staff were friendly and gave us a very nice welcome. The rooms were comfortable. The hotel is across the bridge from Nevers, but walking back after dinner was pleasant.

We were in Nevers for a friend’s wedding. The hotel is reasonably placed, about a 15-minute walk from the centre, and parking is good. Our ground-floor room faced the back. It was smaller and more dated than the photos suggested, but clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was similar. There was only one power outlet, though reception kindly lent us an extension cord. We noticed flies during the night, but understand they may be common in the region. We didn’t have breakfast. I’d stay again if visiting Nevers, although it wouldn’t be my most charming option.

There’s a nice bar here, and the walk to the old town is pleasant.
