Gounod Hotel

We booked for MIPIM expecting a decent, affordable stay, but Gonoud turned out much better than we’d hoped. The decor is lovely, the staff are friendly, and the location made it easy to walk to the beach, promenade and Nice Ville train station. Trams are handy for getting to the airport too. I miss the bathroom already, especially the tiles, lighting and great shower pressure. We didn’t get to try breakfast, though we heard good things, so I’d make time for it on a return visit. Guests also have access to Hotel Splendid next door. It didn’t seem as nice as Gonoud, but it has a rooftop pool, jacuzzi and a great terrace for working, relaxing or getting food at the bar. We spent the last day working from the terraces of 5* hotels. They were glorious, but Gonoud felt more homely and relaxing. With everything considered, I’d call it a 4* hotel and rate it 9.2/10, even alongside the big glorious hotels. I’d choose Gonoud any time.

I slept well here because the neighborhood is quiet, even though the hotel is only about a five minute walk from the beach, train station and shopping avenue. The interiors are pretty, and the amenities include a small gym and spa. Water pressure was good, too. Service was excellent, from the very friendly, helpful receptionists to the impeccable cleaning. It has what you need for a weekend getaway or short trip to Niece.

For what it costs, this is a solid place in a good location near the main boulevard, but it’s quiet enough. The rooms are basic and fairly clean, with a jacuzzi in every room, two big TVs and comfortable beds. Parking is the downside at €25 per night, and breakfast costs another €22 per person. Still, definitely not a bad place ;)

The rooms are pretty average for the price, though they do have good amenities. The friendly, helpful front desk staff made up for that. It’s definitely not worth the price, but if you want to stay in this area, it’s one of the less expensive options.
