Hôtel Helvétique

I spent six days here and loved every minute. The reception staff are pleasant, and the atmosphere is friendly. The location is superb: it’s easy to walk to the beach, market and old town.

The staff were lovely and very helpful, especially when we were anxious about parking our rental car. We booked a space through the hotel, and it was pretty cheap compared with other parking nearby. It’s useful to know you can pull up outside briefly to unload luggage before they give you directions to the parking spot. Reception is staffed 24/7. The room was simple, clean and functional, including the bathroom. Breakfast was perfectly adequate, with the usual continental options. The hotel is conveniently placed for a short walk to the beach and restaurants. I’d recommend it if you’re after a reasonably priced, central hotel.

Be aware, this doesn’t feel like a 3 star hotel at all. The place is very outdated, the rooms are dirty, and our bathroom door had a bashed-in section. The shower door was rusty, and the bathroom door handle broke because it was just a screw in a piece of wood. You can hear water through the pipes when someone flushes, and hear movement above, too. The tiles above us showed water damage. Very poor quality. I don’t recommend it.

I had a very disappointing three-night stay in a single room. I chose this hotel because of its high Booking rating, which turned out to be a mistake. The room looked nothing like the photos, and everything in it was so old it could’ve come from a vintage market. The furniture was extremely old, the towels were worn and dirty, and every outside noise came through. I couldn’t relax or get comfortable any of the three nights. The room was cleaned just once during my stay, and the sheets weren’t changed. The replacement towels were still dirty and had someone else’s hair on them. I have no idea how this place has a 3-star rating. I absolutely don’t recommend it. Save your money for another hotel if you want to enjoy your holiday. It wasn’t worth the cost.
