In the morning, have a cup of coffee while looking at the city from the window. You can take a walk and explore the neighbourhood area of the hotel. I slept better than I expected because it was quieter than I thought it would be. The hotel is rated two stars, and the room was dark, the shower small, and cleanliness wasn’t great. Carrying large luggage up two flights of stairs to reception is quite a challenge. The location is great for getting around. The fountain square is close and good for kids, the beach is a five-minute walk, and the old town is nearby for sightseeing and dining.

The hostess was a nice Russian woman, and there’s a small internal terrace that people on the floor can use for free. It’s an inexpensive place in the heart of Nice. You enter from the shopping street, then pass through the lady’s building in the very center and go up narrow, old stairs to reach the room. It would be quite difficult with large luggage.

The location is the only good thing. The room was damp and smelled bad, the bed was small, and the view was absolutely horrible. For what you pay, it’s not worth it. I’d rather stay in a tent, and there are much better hotels for 5-10 more. A bad, unfortunate experience.

June 2018: The establishment has closed permanently, due to what I believe were real estate issues. It was a fantastic place, with friendly service and a personal, human-scale feel. Just steps from the real Nice.

Everything in the hotel feels dated. The sheets were old and the blankets so thin that, for the first time in my life, I was cold in bed.
