Saint Gothard Nice

The hotel is very close to the train station, which is handy if you’re going on day trips. It’s clean, and the cleaning staff change the towels every day even if you don’t ask. But the breakfast is disappointing: for an okay price you get bread, yogurt, and cereal, with no cold cuts or scrambled eggs. The room was tiny, and I was always bumping into the TV or table trying to get around. I also felt like the staff were doing me a favor with everything, even when simply replying to “good morning.” Not a pleasant stay, and the price was too high for what you got.

I’m writing this from my room at 2am, wide awake because the walls are paper thin and the people next door won’t stop talking. The location is great, as other reviews have said, but that’s all. There’s a bad smell in the room, and it’s too noisy to sleep when the people next door are inconsiderate. The phone to reception was broken.

The central location is the one real advantage: it’s close to major public transport and attractions, with plenty of affordable restaurants nearby. The bed was soft, though short and twin-sized. The rest of the stay was uncomfortable. There was an odor in the halls, corridors, and my room, and the water smelled too. I had to use products to cover the room smell. I complained soon after check-in, but no one helped because there was no manager on duty. The rooms are tiny, like dorm rooms, and $540 for three nights felt like a rip-off. The walls are so thin I could hear the people next door sneezing and making adult noises every night. There are no real amenities. The bath products smelled bad, the towels were worn out, and only one of the two shower heads worked. The WiFi wouldn’t stay connected either. At checkout, I had to leave my key on the front desk because the staff member was asleep on the lobby couch. I wouldn’t recommend staying here; you won’t be comfortable.

The location is excellent, central to everything. Nice ville train station and the tram are both just a two-minute walk away, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby, plus a large supermarket beside the station. The cleaners made up the room daily and left fresh towels, and most of the staff were polite. The rooms were tidy but quite compact, and there was a musty smell in the room and corridors. The walls don’t block sound well. Late one night I had to listen to a woman arguing on her phone for three hours. My wife and I also got bitten badly because of a bed bug problem. If they sort that out, it could be a great base for exploring the French riviera.
