The communal breakfast room felt cozy and made it easy to chat. I met a couple of lovely pairs from Miami , USA and Ireland. I also enjoyed seeing Marius and playing with him whenever I could. He’s friendly and just wants to play, and having a few of his toys around made me happy. I booked the Jean Cocteau Suite, which had a small kitchenette with a mini fridge, microwave, plates, bowls, and utensils. The bathroom was tiny, though that can happen in older buildings. The windows open for cooler air at night, or you can use the A/C. Just remember to turn it off when you leave the room. It was my first visit to Nice, and after doing a lot of research I picked Hotel Victor Hugo, run by Gilles and his adorable dog Marius. Gilles was helpful and hilarious. At check-in he gave me a pamphlet and pointed out places to visit and eat. The hotel is in a quiet area, with a park and tram station just across the street. It felt peaceful, and the tram made it easy to get to Old Town. The stay was lovely, convenient, and budget-friendly.

Breakfast was delicious, and Gilles's dinner recommendation was fantastic. We had a great five-night stay, with a clean room and a good location. Gilles and his dog made us feel welcome right away. I highly recommend Hotel Victor Hugo Nice. Thanks, Gilles and Marius :)

We got the last room available and knew what we were booking. It was very small, but fine for our two nights. Before we left, we got to see a larger room, and I’d love to come back and stay in one. Gilles was friendly, very helpful, and funny.

The breakfast room had a bed and breakfast feel, with an array of items laid out every morning for free. The owner also gave us information and recommendations for nearby places. We felt very safe in this part of Nice and were impressed by the location. My best friend and I were spending a month traveling around Europe and came to Nice for the weekend. Hotel Victor Hugo fit our tight budget and was a good size for two people staying two nights. The rooms were much cleaner than we expected, and the owner was very hospitable. His adorable assistant Maurius made the trip unforgettable. We loved the comfortable bed and would definitely come back.
