Westminster Hotel & Spa Nice

The rooms were old and noisy. Even with the shutters closed, a lot of noise came through the windows late at night. For the price, this hotel just wasn’t worth it, and I won’t stay there or even walk past it again. My bad experience started at check-in. The receptionist was extremely rude when he asked for my credit card to cover extra charges. I’ve been a victim of credit card fraud before, so I didn’t want the card held or blocked. I suggested locking the minibar or emptying it, and said I wouldn’t use the restaurant, or they could disable room charging if I did. I even offered €100 in cash, twice the €50 card hold they wanted. He rejected every suggestion and said he wouldn’t let me check in unless I accepted his way. It felt like a threat to throw me out. I was shocked. I travel often and have never been treated so rudely in hospitality. He argued with me like we were acquaintances having a personal fight. Mr. Kerim doesn’t seem suited to a customer-facing hospitality job. I hope they choose better people for the front desk.

The incident left me extremely stressed for the rest of my stay, and I didn’t feel safe in my room, especially at night, knowing someone had been inside and knew I was carrying cash. The safe also opened easily with the default code. I appreciate that the money was eventually returned, but the experience ruined my trip. I was there for two nights in November. The property is beautiful, and my first impression was very positive. The next morning I left a large amount of cash in the room safe. When I came back a few hours later, my code no longer worked. While waiting for help, I tried several default combinations, and it opened with 1234. After counting my cash, I realized €1,200 was missing. Two staff members came up. At first, they insisted this couldn’t have happened, then left. The male staff member returned shortly afterward, saying he needed to check the safe again. Soon after he left, I found the missing €1,200 neatly folded inside my bag, which had been beside the safe. A few minutes later, the female staff member returned and asked, “Did you find it?” I did, but only after their second visit.

I’ve never written a hotel review before, especially a negative one, but we were deeply disappointed by the service. We booked the hotel’s best room, and the website clearly showed it with a balcony. At check-in, the desk said the balcony was “upon request,” and we ended up in a room without one. The bathtub plug didn’t work at night, so we couldn’t take a bath. More than €200 a night in Nice for a room without a balcony and a tub that didn’t work made for a terrible, overpriced stay. Please avoid this place. Don’t let it spoil your Riviera trip.

We liked the blueberry cake, and breakfast was above average, with nice croissants and creamy scrambled eggs. The location was good and very close to the beach, though bring shoes for the water because the stones hurt your feet. The staff were friendly. The room felt a little dated, and the pillows were too high and firm for me. The bathtub wasn’t made for someone with broader shoulders. The AC worked well at first, with hot and cold settings and temperature control, but during the last two days we could only change the fan speed. I should’ve asked for help, but we were too lazy. WiFi was slow and kept having connection issues, so I used my mobile data instead. There was no sound isolation at all. You could hear people talking outside your door and doors opening and closing. Sometimes you could even hear the neighbors while standing in the bathroom.
