The house was in good condition, and it stayed surprisingly cool without air conditioning or a fan. We were a family of four and stayed one night. Breakfast was very basic, with some leftover fruit. I’d expected a better spread, perhaps with local products.

The room was booked at the last minute by a colleague who had forgotten to write down our reservation. Nadine, Jean François, and their employee still welcomed us warmly, even though we arrived on foot. The garden is lovely, and our room was clean and cosy. Breakfast was generous, with both sweet and savoury options. We highly recommend the place. Thanks again to them for having us.

The grounds are beautifully kept, and the owners gave us some really helpful advice. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and tastefully decorated, with its own terrace. We could look out over the clean, well-maintained pool, and breakfast came with generous portions and homemade jams. The hosts made us feel very welcome. Logis Du Port Paradis was peaceful and relaxing, and we can’t wait to come back.

The shared fridge in the common room has to serve several rooms and families or couples, so it’s really impractical. The ping-pong table mentioned in the listing was covered with a tarp and couldn’t be used. We were told playing would make too much noise and disturb the host’s peace and quiet. The dog’s mess by the pool was unpleasant and unhygienic, and the dog frightened some guests who weren’t comfortable around it. At breakfast, which we ate very early, the owner criticized the mess left on the table by people who had already eaten. There always seemed to be another remark, about children or adults. We barely spoke and made no noise, yet every day we felt we were bothering someone. As a communications trainer, I noticed that many travelers seemed uncomfortable with the host’s remarks, controlling behavior, and gratuitous nastiness. I’ve never been treated so badly by a host, especially one listed as a Gîte de France. The place could be pleasant, but the owner’s unpleasant comments spoil it. We were looking for quiet and kindness, and instead felt uneasy throughout the stay. I’m giving one star only because I can’t give zero. There’s no kindness, peace, or holiday feeling here. Avoid it. It feels about as far from Heaven as you can get, more like the gates of Hell.

The rooms and setting were beautiful, but the owner’s daily outbursts made the stay stressful. We wanted some peace and quiet and instead spent our time dealing with unpleasant comments. She repeatedly said we could leave and find another rental. Another guest warned us as they were leaving, and we should have turned around then. We were criticized at lunch over the table being a “mess” after guests had finished eating, even though the lunch was very good. The owner also commented on other guests’ young children, our age, 27-30, and how quiet she expected us to be. The atmosphere suffered. We had told the owners we were bringing a dog and paid the extra fee, but the welcome was still very poor. The owner said our dog might scare other guests. Ms. Bauve has a much larger Cane Corso, though, which barked a lot and approached those same guests. We weren’t allowed to walk our dog in the large garden, despite her age making long walks impossible. “It’s not my fault if your dog is old and disabled,” she told us. Her own dog was able to relieve himself by the pool. Accidents happen, and we wouldn’t have held that against her on its own, but the owner’s spiteful attitude made it worse. When we brought an inflatable mattress to lie on in the pool while nobody else was there, the owner verbally attacked us.
