Mercure Niort Marais Poitevin Hotel

My family stayed here last week while touring France. My aunt slipped in the shower because there was no anti-slip mat, hit her head and back, and broke a finger. She spent two nights in hospital and needed emergency surgery on her finger. There were 34 other people on her tour, and none of their showers had an anti-slip mat either. After she fell, there was blood on the bathroom floor and towels. The hotel then put a mat down and quickly removed the bloody towels. My aunt has photos of the scene and the towels, as well as hospital reports. Reception handled it terribly. They didn’t apologise, offer her water, arrange a lift to the hospital just a few minutes away, or check on her afterwards. She doesn’t speak French and was left to manage on her own, even though the hotel hadn’t put proper precautions in place for its guests. Legal action is now under way. The family has collected the evidence, and the hotel in Niort should expect a claim for the medical bills and legal costs. Avoid this place for your own safety.

We slept really well in a very comfortable bed, and it was handy being able to bring our dogs. The receptionist was helpful and booked a restaurant for us. There’s secure parking too.

The 12 pm check-in and check-out were a real plus, and I wish more hotels offered that. The room had effective air conditioning and a super comfortable bed. Room service food was very high quality, the pool was excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It has everything you need, and I’d highly recommend staying here.

It’s a relaxing, pleasant place to stay. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and both the rooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable.
