The room was the worst part of a stay that we cut short. It was tiny and dark, with a double bed and a very small single bed pushed against the wall, no air conditioning and poor upkeep. The bathroom was ancient and badly in need of updating. The wardrobes were just doors opening onto an alcove, and the window in the door facing the pool opened from outside, so the room didn’t feel secure. I can’t believe this is rented out as a hotel room. We were meant to spend three nights here, but left after the first morning and found alternative accommodation at great expense. I wouldn’t accept room 6 or stay here at all. The welcome was awful from the start. The host was angry and rude, didn’t say hello or welcome, and blamed us for arriving a night later than expected. We’d changed our dates through booking.com, but she clearly hadn’t received the update. With my limited French and her limited English, I’m not sure she understood what I was trying to explain. She pointed to the room 6 key on a board, walked a few steps and pointed to the room, without telling us anything about breakfast times. At breakfast the next morning, she again didn’t greet us, although she chatted pleasantly with other guests and people checking out. When I returned the key and said we wouldn’t stay the next two nights, she got angry again and brought up the booking dates. I told her the room was dreadful and that she’d been extremely rude, with no greeting at all. Booking.com should take some responsibility, and this hotel shouldn’t be listed on any booking website.
The location was pretty good, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The host was terribly rude, and the room was dreadful. When we arrived, the woman at reception berated us for being a day late and refused to speak any English. The date change had been caused by booking.com, and she stayed hostile even after we explained. She took only a few steps before pointing us toward the room. The door had a window that could be opened from outside, which felt unsafe. The room was meant for three, but had a double bed and a cheap single bed barely a foot off the ground. There was no air conditioning, just three ancient wall lamps, and the bathroom looked older than France itself. We left the next morning. When we said we weren’t satisfied and were checking out early, she launched into another angry complaint about our arrival date. Poor service and a poor room.
The pool and terrace are beautifully designed, and there’s secure bike storage if you’re touring by bike. The hotel itself is charming and right in the heart of Noirmoutier-en-l’Île, so the location alone is worth recommending. What really stood out, though, was how kind and helpful the team were. We ended up staying unexpectedly after our campervan was in an accident and became unusable. We couldn’t camp and had to head home early. CAMC Red Pennant arranged the booking and were excellent. Marianne and her sons, Pierre and Lucas, were wonderful to us when we needed help. Lucas in particular went far beyond what he had to do. We’re deeply grateful to them all. Highly recommend.
I’ve never felt so unwelcome at a hotel. The staff were unhelpful, and the woman at reception was extremely rude. My son and I were made to feel unwelcome from the start. The room was basic, had no air conditioning, and there was hair on the bathroom floor when we checked in. The pool was very small and not great. At checkout, their credit card machine wasn’t working. The receptionist said it had been blocked all morning and made me feel as though it was my fault. She took my card to enter the numbers, and after trying to process the payment repeatedly, she blocked it. I had to go back and forth to the bank to pay the bill, but couldn’t manage it there, so I returned with cash. When I handed it over, she snapped at me for not having the exact amount, stormed off to get change, then handed it back without a word. No thank you, no goodbye. Avoid this hotel.
The island is gorgeous, and the hotel is very central. The bedrooms felt a little tired and could use some TLC. We stayed for two nights, on 7/8 th july, and the staff didn’t speak any English while we were there. The internet only really worked in reception, which wasn’t much use for the kids.
