Château d'Asnieres en Bessin

Bayeux is well worth a visit for its lovely town center, cathedral, and tea room, and you can get everything you need at L'Eclerc without dealing with the madness of Caen. We also enjoyed Carl's recommended restaurants, just a short drive away, and walked to Omaha beach for a sobering visit. My wife and I would definitely return to this wonderful, wonky Chateau for the hospitality and friendly, helpful proprietors.

After our flight was canceled and the airline lost our luggage, I arrived late, exhausted, and sad. My husband had booked the place as a surprise, and being there suddenly made the awful day feel worth it. The room was spotless, the bed incredibly comfy, and the whole place was quiet and peaceful. We slept so well. In the morning we had fresh juice, coffee, pastries, jams, and croissants, plus guidance for making the most of our delayed day. The house feels homey, with beautiful architecture, furniture, and interior details from the ceilings and floors to the doors and walls. It's conveniently located for Omaha Beach and the military sites my husband had wanted to see for years. The kids love the dog on the grounds, who's super friendly and happy to play fetch. I'd highly recommend it for couples or families.

Carl was quick to reply when we emailed about arriving late, and he was waiting outside to welcome us even though we got there at 9:00. We had driven from Caen and found the property easily with GPS. The room we originally booked wasn't available, but the one we were given was just as beautiful. The grounds and every corner of the Chateau felt unique and traditional, with nothing too perfect or new. We enjoyed looking around and hearing Carl's knowledgeable stories about the area's history. The property is close to the D-Day sites, yet secluded enough to unwind after travelling. We had a wonderful two-night stay and can't wait to return. We talk about the place all the time and already miss Newton the Chateau dog.

The old château has lovely scenery and a great atmosphere, and I really enjoyed my stay. Carl was friendly and accommodating, and breakfast was very good. It's quite far from places, though, so if you're planning to have a drink, arrange another driver. I couldn't get an Uber there. I'd stay again.
