Hotel Gentilhommière

We're repeat guests, which made this stay feel especially disappointing. After a ten-hour drive, we said we'd booked for the pool and wanted to swim, but were told the outdoor pool was closed, with no explanation. It was midsummer, and apparently it shuts at 7. We also asked to eat outside on a lovely summer evening. There were plenty of tables and staff, but that was refused without explanation too. Later, on a chilly evening, we asked to have champagne outdoors with the overhead heaters on and were turned down again, still without any reason. We had booked cheaper rooms and didn't get an upgrade, and dinner was mediocre at best. We felt treated like badly behaved children instead of valued repeat customers. The whole experience left us feeling awful. It's sad, because the place itself is lovely.

The restaurant food was great and very affordable, and the staff were both professional and friendly. They made things easy for us and our three-month-old baby. The place sits in the middle of nature, with a curious but appealing blend of an old-fashioned French castle and a luxury American-style motel. Being able to park right beside your room is convenient. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

We arrived after a disastrous journey and ended up staying just one night, from 7pm, but we'd come back and recommend it. I slept incredibly well in a bed like a cloud, and our family room was very spacious. We also had a pretty private patio looking over the river and fields. The estate has vineyards, woods, and a lovely river running through it. Its style might seem old-fashioned to some, while others may call it elegantly traditional. Dinner suited both a Michelin-star palate and a tired child, and breakfast had everything we needed. The staff were patient with our best attempts at French. Thank you, La Gentilhommiere.

We ate at the restaurant on both nights and enjoyed delicious meals. The staff, from reception and the dining room to housekeeping, were friendly, helpful, and understanding. We were here for an e-bike holiday, and it was easy to reach by bike with a space to store them. Our small room was okay, as long as you don't expect much. Friends had larger rooms with a fridge and a terrace overlooking the river, and those were definitely better. The pool isn't open in April.
