Hôtel Sainte Odile

The room was small but tidy, and breakfast was good. A nice little hotel right in the center of Obernai. I’d recommend it.

The air-conditioning was much appreciated when it was over 30 degrees, and the bed had actual quilts instead of the sheet-and-blanket setup I’ve found in many French hotels. Breakfast was another nice surprise: you can cook your eggs the way you like, rather than just having the sweet pastries common at French 2-3 star places. The tarte flambees at the good restaurant were great, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It deserves a third star, maybe even an extra one. Lovely hotel in the heart of Obernai, and we’ll definitely return.

Although it’s an old building, everything felt fresh and clean, whether recently refurbished or simply very well maintained. The quadruple room worked well, though it was a little cramped; the bathroom was tiny, and the toilet made some extraordinary industrial noises after every flush. Breakfast was OK, with good personal service. The hotel has rooms above a restaurant in a street full of restaurants, right in Obernai’s pedestrian centre. The historic Alsace town still has all its charm.

The restaurant food was delicious, and the included breakfast was very good. I stayed for a weekend once. The room was fine, nothing special, but not bad, and the staff were friendly.
