Maison d'Hôte la Grange aux Ayres

The warm, personal welcome was much appreciated. We stayed in a beautiful, comfortable house full of history. It’s unique, and I highly recommend it!

Our hosts were so friendly, and the room and setting were lovely. Breakfast was good quality too, with plenty to choose from. A superb experience.

Breakfast was the one part that disappointed us. We care about local, seasonal food, but there were many processed items, including yogurts, fruit juices, cereals, jams, fruit, tea and herbal teas. The savory platter had Emmental and Rosette, which aren’t local, despite the markets and farms nearby selling excellent food at prices that aren’t necessarily higher. La Grange aux Ayres is a beautiful, well-kept building, and our hosts were warm and gave us a thorough tour. The house feels inviting inside. There are tourist brochures, maps, and hiking routes in the entrance hall, next to the dining room and its large breakfast table. Upstairs we found a snug room for reading and watching TV, along with the bedrooms. Two cottages built into the house are also available to rent. Our room was bright and comfortable, with good bedding. We have feather allergies but had no problem with the feather duvet and pillows. The main window has a mosquito net, so we could air the room during the day without letting insects in. The bathroom was practical, the towels were spotless, and tea and herbal teas were available with a kettle. We especially liked the quiet and slept peacefully, which was just what we needed for walks in the area. The Camino de Santiago and the Gorges de la Monne hike start right from the house, beyond the public parking lot. We found a parking space easily each evening. Note that pets aren’t allowed. The garden has a swimming pool, barbecue, a large table, deckchairs, hammocks, and a storage room with a refrigerator.

Alain and Brigitte made us feel welcome and were attentive, with good tips for lovely hikes. The gîte is well placed for exploring the region and switching off. It’s clean, peaceful, and very pleasant. The heated pool and generous breakfast are nice extras. I recommend it 100%.
