Château de Labro

The buildings and gardens are stunning, and the whole place is wonderfully peaceful. History and beauty come together here. Worth every penny.

The bedroom was comfortable, and Wi-Fi worked throughout the property, though it wasn’t especially fast. Breakfast had a good spread: cereals, bread, cakes, nuts, cheese, eggs, organic yogurt, and fresh orange juice. We enjoyed our stay overall, but there were a lot of flies where guests eat, and that needs addressing. We stayed in the Artiste room in the métairie. The kettle didn’t work, the toilet had no seat, and the bathtub was in the middle of the room with only curtains for privacy. There was no hook to hold the shower, and the curtains stuck to you. The restaurant served good, refined food that was well cooked without feeling posh. The 45€ menu didn’t seem worth 16€ more than the basic one, since the extras were three fixed pieces of cheese rather than a choice, and fried fresh foie gras, which is fairly common in the area. The two quaint salons beside reception only serve drinks. Don’t expect food before the bar opens at 7 p.m., and even then the only snack option was a few olives. Château de Labro is a lovely, authentic hotel in a converted old farming hamlet in the Aveyron countryside. The staff were pleasant and helpful, though the young restaurant waiter seemed a little inexperienced. The sauna and bubbling pool were relaxing and fairly well equipped, but the spa is small, so you’re close to the other guests. The bar and restaurant decor fits the place, with a stylishly worn farmhouse and château feel.

We only had two nights here, and I wish it had been longer. The grounds are stunning, with lovely rooms, excellent food, a pool in their own vineyard, a spa, and a huge treehouse. The whole place feels idyllic, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

The setting is beautiful, but with five-star prices I expected customer service to be excellent. One senior person here had an atrocious attitude, and that alone means I can’t recommend the place.
