Camping Le Chatelet

The setting is stunning, and the beach is worth the steep walk down, with sandy stretches and lots of rock pools. We were staying in a tent, so I can’t comment on the cabins. The washrooms were clean and checked often. The pool is lovely, small but handy in wet weather since they can cover it. The evening entertainment was okay. It’s usually not my thing, so I may not be the best judge.

The pool and bar are lovely, and there seem to be plenty for children to do, both indoors and out. The grounds are very well kept, though some of the upper pitches are shaded by trees for most of the day and could use trimming. I enjoy some shade, but would like a chance to sit in the sun as well. Some pitches and chalets have sea views, and the place is generally very nice. There are lots of showers and toilets. The facilities by the new chalets have been updated, but both blocks near the bar could do with some care. The accessible shower had no hooks for clothes or towels, and its shower head was broken so it couldn't be hung up. Everything got wet, and we had to leave our clothes in the bag. There’s a beautiful cove and a lovely beach, though there are lots of steps down.

We had a great time at Romanee’s Le Chatelet and would gladly recommend it. Our pitch had a wonderful sea view that we enjoyed every day, and the children loved the playgrounds and pool. Good weather meant we went to the beach several times, just a five-minute walk away. The campsite is compact but has the essentials, including a small shop, indoor pool, snack bar and playgrounds. Staff were quick to respond and friendly when we had a question. The showers and toilets were clean and tidy, a welcome surprise for a campsite in France. We hadn't noticed our pitch had no water point or drain, but a watering can did the job. There are also plenty of interesting places to explore nearby.

We first came here five years ago, and it’s clear the site has had some investment since then. We still love the mix of coastal views, two nearby beaches and a pool. It’s always been quiet on our visits, whether in early September or this time in June. We book with Canvas Holidays, and the touring pitches look good too. Our one small gripe was that the nearest sanitaire had only one toilet and one indoor shower, both reserved for disabled visitors. It was fine if you didn’t mind walking a little farther to another block. The pool is heated and excellent, and there’s a shop, bar and snack bar as well. We rate the site highly and will likely be back.
