Campanile NATURE - Orange

The pictures gave us the wrong idea of what we’d booked. We’d reserved a room with an extra junior bed, but it wasn’t there, and nobody clearly explained why. The first room had a hole in the wall, and its shower had no glass or curtain and sat right beside the toilet. It was meant for disabled guests, yet the layout could easily have been more considerate. The next room was better, though still clearly different from the listing photos. It felt like the 90s, right down to the hairdryer, and the listing doesn’t show that the room opens straight onto the parking lot. A very disappointing stay.

I booked through booking and asked by message whether reception would be open when I arrived at 1 a.m. The hotel replied that it couldn’t process payment and wanted my credit card number. I said I didn’t know why the payment was failing, that I’d pay there, and that I was only asking about reception hours. They then said they wouldn’t answer unless I gave them my card number. That’s unacceptable. Edit: booking doesn’t say you need to call the hotel after 10 p.m. I was in contact with reception by text, so the hotel was reachable.

We keep staying here because it’s so close to the motorway, about three minutes away, and there’s an intermarche nearby for cheaper fuel. The welcome at reception is warm and friendly, and the staff, especially the woman on reception, are lovely. This is the best Campanile we’ve stayed at for food. The duck Parmentier is absolutely yummy. The showers have all been refurbished, and the whole place is decorated really nicely.

My room faced the highway, but outside noise didn’t come through. It was clean and spacious, and the shower was nice. The problem was the ventilation: you can’t turn it off, and it kept blowing a cold smell of cigarettes.
