Hotel de l'Abeille Orleans

After several previous visits, this used to be our favourite Orleans hotel. We were a family of three in two rooms, but noise from the floor above went on until 1 a.m. and wrecked the stay. The staff didn’t seem interested the next day. It’s a sad memory now.

What a relief to find a hotel with such an authentic feel when so many places look bland and alike. Hôtel de l´Abeille has been family-run since opening, and still has its old-school charm and décor. Our room had classic furniture alongside a tasteful refurbishment. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. It’s close to Orléans´ main thoroughfare, too.

For the price, it’s worth it. Comfortable, with a quirky 1903 style and a homage to bees. The staff were lovely and helpful.

The staff were friendly and helpful, especially when sharing suggestions for places to eat. The hotel was clean, tidy, and nicely presented, with lots of historic pictures and ornaments. Our room was very large, though the sloping ceilings meant you couldn’t stand upright everywhere. It’s well placed for both the old town and the railway station, around 250-300m away, so it worked well for our one-night short break. We’d been warned a good three weeks ahead that the loft room meant four or five flights of stairs. There’s no lift that we saw, so it’s not ideal if you have mobility issues. The TV reception was quite poor, possibly because the room was in the loft, and the shower was only 2 feet from the floor. That may not be true of the other rooms. Breakfast was okay, but with cafes nearby offering similar options for less, it didn’t feel worth the price. I’d stay again at the price we paid, mainly because the staff were nice and the location was convenient.
