Empreinte Hôtel & Spa

It was the best of the seven hotels on our road trip. We booked a parking space just down the road, and the hotel is easy walking distance from the town centre, with a river walk across the street. Reception were helpful and all spoke fluent English, saving them from my best franglais. The room was clean, modern, and well furnished. Our dog was welcome, with a bed and treats provided. We also got complimentary bottles of water when we checked out. I'd recommend it.

The breakfast buffet was a highlight, with plenty of fresh choices, including fruit, cheese, charcuterie, eggs, bacon, cereal, yogurt, juices, and bread. The Earl Grey and cappuccino were excellent. We arrived very late, but Julia at reception welcomed us warmly and took care of our luggage. The bar was still open, so we had red wine brought to the room. We didn't get to use the spa because it was too late. Our modern room and bathroom had harmonious furniture and colours, and the bed was very comfortable. From the second floor we had a direct view of the Loire, which had little water. The next morning we were delighted to spot a great egret, common tern, and kingfisher in the river. The hotel sits south of the old town and pedestrian zone, by the Loire and its boardwalk. The cathedral and Jean d'Arc monument are about a 10-minute walk into the city centre. There is a private parking lot in a building next door, and the entrance to the public parking at Les Halles is right beside the hotel. It's an upscale-priced four-star hotel, but delivers value for money. I highly recommend it.

At 154 EUR for a night, it felt expensive when I considered the whole stay. The Loire view was beautiful, and being in the city center was convenient. The beds were too soft, the room design a bit odd, and we had the bad luck to visit during spider season, with many spiders in the room. The spa and sauna are included, which is nice, but the facilities are far from what you'd expect from a real wellness spa. They look more like something someone might install at home.

Brigitte was a gracious, delightful host, and the service felt guest focused. The room and bath were luxurious, with a wonderful river view, and the breakfast spread was expansive, varied, and delicious. It's a lovely hotel in a fantastic location, and very dog friendly. I didn't have the chance to use the spa.
